A Poem for All Trans People

They would silence us,

     but we will speak.

They would erase us,

     but we will endure.

They would control us,

     but we will be free.

They would judge us,

     but we will scoff.

They would laugh at us,

but we will laugh at ourselves.

They would hurt us,

     but we will heal.

They would hate us,

     but we will love.

They would kill us,

     but we will live.

They would have us go quietly into the night,

     but we will not.

They would strip us of our humanity,

but we are woven into the fabric.

They would deny we exist,

     but we are here.

We are here.
